While I was packing for vacation last week, the boys asked to do some school. Not wanting to waste a good opprotunity, we finished up on the letter J. We read through Jellyfish. While it isn’t much of a children’s reader-type of book (ie- no storyline), J and E loved seein all the different types of jellyfish. J also remembered how jellyfish sting fish (and people) from Finding Nemo. We then did an open ended jellyfish project. I gave them a plate, a dot-dabber, tape, sissors, and a roll of paper streamers. I suggested they decorate their plate like the dots on some of the jellyfish and use the streamers as the tentacles. They did great; J used the sissors in “correct” form while E still needed help holding the streamer so he could use both hands to operate the sissors. After they were done assembling their jellyfish, I hung them from the fan blades. I turned on the fan (superlow) which made it look as J put it, like “the jellyfish are swimming through the water”.
